Hunger Relief Organizations

In the face of rising food insecurity, GFG partners are increasing access to local, nutrient-dense, and culturally relevant food throughout our communities.

Growing for Good (GFG) hunger relief organizations (HROs) include food pantries, mobile markets, senior centers, preschools, meal programs, and more. Produce and protein are the most requested items at food banks, but remain challenging to procure.

GFG was created to meet this need while supporting local farmers. HROs are matched with farms largely based on their client's needs. This means HROs can select produce based on their cultural relevance, rather relying solely on donations or grocery rescue. Purchasing locally is also an opportunity for HROs to reinvest in their community.

Since 2020, GFG farmers delivered 332,815 pounds of fresh food to their partner HROs. Beyond these contracts, many farms make additional donations to their partner organizations thanks to their established relationships.

Staff and volunteers at these HROs work every day to nourish their communities, and GFG is proud to support them in this work.

"We built wonderful connections with the farmers we sourced from through Growing for Good partnership. The extra produce we received through Growing for Good partnerships allowed our food banks to have an abundance of healthy fruits and vegetables!

It was such a joy to distribute farm fresh produce to the community. Really appreciated the variety in what we received from the different farms. It was such a wonderful spread and each of these items were popular across all of our food programming.

“GFG makes connections to farms that might not otherwise be interested in working with us. Working with Alvarez Organics is also always great due to their location further East - most of our farm purchasing opportunities are local which leads to duplications of offerings and seasonality. Having access to crops from a slightly different climate really increases the range of products available..”

Customers are thrilled with the quality. We are proud to say that nearly all of our offerings are high quality, but we have heard many customers, upon seeing produce from Regino Farms, exclaim that they are the best looking carrots, or kale, or strawberries they have ever seen. And we on the staff agree! They look like the best food you could hope to find at the priciest farmers market.

Customers also appreciate that the food comes in from a farm directly. They see us helping to unload and are very pleased to get such high quality, fresh food directly from a near by farmer. It really demonstrates the power of local food and food systems.
